Re: error 1006 when trying to put avast on my computer

I’ve tried this several times and I keep getting the same error. I’m running Windows 7. It’s getting really frustrating.

I’ve tried using Run, Save to file, and Save to a USB drive. Same error each time it seems to be having problems opening the self-extract archive. I can’t seem to find another site other than CNet. >:(

Don’t use download and run in a single action this is fraught with potential to fail.

Error 1006 = The volume for a file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid.

Try this - Download avast 5.0.418 free antivirus - http://www.majorgeeks.com/download1968.html?2010-01-29

Are you using a download manager or direct download from your browser ?

If direct from your browser, what browser ?

Did you ever get this figured out? I am a newbie to this forum, but I am having the same problem you did. How did you get it resolved?

Hard to tell if they ever did as they didn’t answer any of the questions asked nor come back to say they had resolved it, etc.

If you can answer the questions ashed of the original poster ?

The latest version is 5.0.462 and here is a direct link to that for the avast 5.0 free antivirus version if that is what you are looking for. Free AV: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/setup_av_free.exe, right click on this file and select save as or save file as, etc. (depending on your browser) and save it to your hard disk where you can find it after.
