Re-registration Update Addition - Not Wanted

I received a message that my FREE avast requires re-registration.

I filled out the form and after submission up came a screen offering an extra protection option, free, for 30 days - then pay.

There was no option to bypass this ‘offer’ and it had to be accepted to complete re-registraqtion.

It said that this ‘extra’ could be de-activated at any time by clicking a button.

I don’t want it the addon.

I’m quite happy with the basic ‘FREE’ version.

Where’s the button to get this ‘addon’ removed.

Thanks

I haven’t seen this (as I’m not close to re-registering), but it shouldn’t be that there is no way to close it or continue the process to re-register the free version. If you can try it again and post a screenshot of the window it would be helpful.

You can also use the old off-line method of registration, complete the form, receive the email, enter the registration key, http://www.avast.com/en-us/registration-free-antivirus.php.

OK - problem solved but it’s not staring you in the face!

There is an option to buy the addon.

Clicking on this (which probably isn’t intuitive if you don’t want it) does offer an option to revert to the basic FREE version.

Now have registration until next May.

OK - Would certainly be helpful if there was a decline button, since as you say it isn’t very intuitive.

After many years of using and recommending AVAST FREE, I uninstalled it over this “new” re-registration strategy.

Sincerely, Thank You for years of free, excellent service. Sad to see it go.

I have zero interest in cloud services and the AVAST firewall.

A CLEAR OPT OUT would have been nice.

Thanks again for all you have done for me, and the internet community at large through the years.

Cloud services are really just emergency updates to provide you with the latest signitures quicker and the firewall is not included with the free version ???
Opting out of any features is simple through a custom install.

Go where? avast! free has 150 million active users and 210 million registered users… It’s there and will be there.

. . . . and that option is cleverly scrolled off the bottom of the screen!

This is obviously a new tactic to try to get more users buying the full version by default. I must say I take a dim view of this sort of arm-twisting so if this happens again at the next re-registration I’ll probably dump Avast and go for MSE.
