Of course you can by excluding file types, but that is crazy excluding complete groups of files that are targets for infection/exploitation, you system, your choice.
I notice zero impact in performance in running the File System Shield on the default settings, surely your system isn’t so under powered as to notice any impact in this default setting, which is designed by Alwil to provide the best compromise between protection and performance.
Please don’t forget to include the fact that you’ve disabled various protections such as scanning certain files if you later post about receiving an infection when Avast was running.
You seem to be intent on going down a very risky path despite the warnings that have been given in previous posts in this thread, but I guess that is your choice, and you may have to live with the result.
If you look at the report page in the expert settings of the file system shield, and read the help file, you will see you could configure it to report on (a) the files scanned OK, or (b) the files skipped, or (C) both.
How you set this is up to you, but note that potentially this could be a huge report. I would assume it may also degrade performance whilst it is in this mode. It may also not give you the full picture, and you may need to do a similar thing with the Web shield.
