real time can i avoid to open and scan jpg , mp3 and so on?

Hi to all

i’m testing the free version of avast 5

what i don’t like in avast realtime engine is that scan files like jpg ,and other image files

is there a way to set avast real time engine to scan (scan open file )only dangerous extension ?

i talking about scan file to open , i don’t talk about file like exe

thanks

Well .jpg and mp3 files can be infected/exploited so present a real risk, so IMHO should be scanned by the real-time scanners.

If you have the default settings on the File System Shield, that is exactly what it is doing, scanning files that present a risk.

but can i avoid avast scans file to open like jpg and mp3?

Of course you can by excluding file types, but that is crazy excluding complete groups of files that are targets for infection/exploitation, you system, your choice.

I notice zero impact in performance in running the File System Shield on the default settings, surely your system isn’t so under powered as to notice any impact in this default setting, which is designed by Alwil to provide the best compromise between protection and performance.

thanks
can you tell me how exclude?
is there a screenshot?

avast help file, Real-time shields, Expert settings (I don’t believe this an expert decision, sorry), Exclusions.

thank you so much
but is there not a list of the files that avast open to read
can i edit it?

Please don’t forget to include the fact that you’ve disabled various protections such as scanning certain files if you later post about receiving an infection when Avast was running.

is there a way to log the resident shield ? to track which exactly files avast opens in the real time scan?

Mantra,

You seem to be intent on going down a very risky path despite the warnings that have been given in previous posts in this thread, but I guess that is your choice, and you may have to live with the result.

If you look at the report page in the expert settings of the file system shield, and read the help file, you will see you could configure it to report on (a) the files scanned OK, or (b) the files skipped, or (C) both.
How you set this is up to you, but note that potentially this could be a huge report. I would assume it may also degrade performance whilst it is in this mode. It may also not give you the full picture, and you may need to do a similar thing with the Web shield.

are you sure avast will report every files opened in the report?
because i tried and v5 did not
thanks
