This may be a dumb question but I got a message of avast free in windows notifications that “your protection is up and running”. Is this what they meant with the latest update “real-time protection – We’ve improved messaging to let you know when your protection is running smoothly afetr you restart your computer.”
I can only assume but wanted to be sure. Can’t upload a picture for some reason
Yes that’s it, total waste of time.
See this topic - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=327347.0 - Annoying PopUp
EDIT:

That is another new Feature of avast popups not getting in the way of screenshots, handy but cr4p if you want to capture the avast popup.
If you have a screenshot, file size is limited to 1024KB, so if your file is too large, shrink it by, say, using Windows Paint to 50% size.
[EDIT:] Added screenshot of new Windows notification. See attached.
I hope this notification will be removed or the user will be given the choice to enable or disable it.
You can disable it through Windows notification settings.
The problem with this is that you also remove the avast icon from the taskbar, so you won’t even see the red cross if you’re no longer protected. :-\
I don’t think that’s what most users want.
It’s counter-productive
I didn’t think it did that, as those two settings aren’t related on Windows, especially since the system tray icon can be added/removed from Avast’s UI settings. I’m assuming you tried it and that’s what it resulted in? If so, yeah, that’s pretty lame.
No, I haven’t tried it because it hasn’t affected me (yet). you are right ![ ](/images/emoji/twitter/wink.png?v=12)
Just a guess, given what Windows offers for taskbar notifications, which seem to be linked to the icon from which they come…No notification = No icon ?
But maybe there are 2 separate proposals. So wait and see from impacted users
On the other hand, as bob seems to be saying here, hiding these notifications in windows also hides notifications of the presence of a more annoying problem (virus).
If Avast detects a virus, I think you’d get the pop up in the middle of the screen from one of the shields. You don’t get it from the Windows notification bar.
