real-time shield in server X is still showing 'off'

Hello,
I currently facing a problem…
firstly, I already installed AEA 7 to my server X,
then I try to push install the avast antivirus to this server X…
everything went smoothly up to here…

but, after that my real-time shield in server X is still showing ‘off’
I think it is because the license, so the real-time shield still showing ‘off’
but, I already have the license in my server, and it should be automatically insert the license to my server X
actually is it a bug?or are there any misconfiguration?

thank you,

Best Regards,

Hello

In case, license on the managed client is expired all shields will stay turned off. Managed client has to connect to EAS first to obtain licence and settings.
Based what you wrote, it seems that client did not connect to the EAS at all. I would like to see the following log file:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\log\entAgent.log

Also make sure, that you put correct EAS server, while you were creating Installation package. Above the list of the components is a small field where the correct DNS/IP address of the EAS server has to be inserted.

Hello
I have the same problem on an unmanaged server (so no AEA o SOA should be involved)
The license is valid for almost 1 more year (may 2013)
Any idea?
Thanks
Andrea

@avangate - are all the “real-time” shields running? If there is a stopped shield then you’ll see the attention (yellow) message at summary page. If there is a stopped shield (by purpose) you can disable monitoring of such shield at “Settings > Status” page.

Lukas.

I’m having same problem like avangate. All real-time shields are up and running. If I press fix it nothing is happening. I tried even with reinstalling but still there is that annoying X.

same here

tried a uninstall / install
install from webpage / push install
but nothing works

still all servers are shown in the console with an “X”
none the less they seem to be protected, but this is pretty annoying

I have found that the by default the Exchange and Sharepoint shields run automatically. If you have this on servers that don’t have Exchange or Sharepoint then you need to disable monitoring that on those servers and the “off” protection will show secured.

I’ve tried and disable monitoring of all services and X is still there.

I don’t know if this applies but you’ll have to disable on the console not the server itself. It is getting it’s setting from the default group settings.

In case, it is managed client, you have to untick “monitor” feature under specific Computer group properties for selected shield. After that, do not forget to Apply this change to selected computer group/computer or just wait for automatic “push” from the server.

On a new install we have this issue to. Avast say protection disable.
But all service are on.

Make sure, that all shields are running - real-time shields+additional protection as avast! plug-in for MS Exchange/SharePoint,Antispam.
Does this behavior appear on all computers?

Same problem here. On different servers, both updates from Business Protection and new Endpoint installations, same thing is happening. Even occurs in unmanaged server version, on Windows Server 2008 and 2003.

If we disable monitoring for the Sharepoint shield, the clients will be marked “secure”, but will still have that “Real-time shields: off” error. Tried rebooting, it’s still there.
Deployed avast without the Sharepoint shield → no more errors!

But with a stand-alone client we can’t do this. Even if we untick the Sharepoint shields at installation, it will have the error.

I looked into components.ini. The shields are not installed, but there’s something:

[ais_shp_common]
Installed=1

From looking at the file, I believe “shp” stands for Sharepoint, and it’s installed. The shields for 32 and 64 bit are not installed, but this is.
Is this the cause of the error? We can’t uninstall it.

If the Sharepoint shield is disabled, status on the client will show up with small exclamation mark. If you disable monitor feature for Sharepoint, after that status of the shield will no longer be checked/monitored. So it will act as OK without exclamation mark.

Sharepoint shield is not active by default. You have to download/upload data from/to Sharepoint first. After that avast! SharePoint shield should start up.

I don’t understand. Recently I noticed the yellow exclamation point on my server when AVAST runs. It’s just a stand alone server for storage so essentially just another node/client on the network.

The Sharepoint Shield is NOT running and the message under Realtime Protection says it is waiting the the service to start. All other shield work fine. I don’t want or need Sharepoint shields.

So, specifically, how to I disable ONLY Sharepoint Shields. Again, the console shows it at not running and waiting for the service to stop. I"ve been running AVAST for a few years. This is the first time with this type of warning for me, and the first I’ve ever seen of “Sharepoint” real time monitoring. I don’t want it and don’t need it.

@rscaron - Edit the group settings… Sheids… click on sahrepoint shield so it greys out and unchecks the monitor box next to it. save.

I’m sorry I don’t know what you mean. I run AVAST on my one file server just like I would on any desktop. Isn’t group settings something you would do through a Management Console when you install AVAST to run in that fashion - meaning centrally managed on a network.

The version on my server recently updated with a new version called “File Server Security”. Prior to that it was just the same standard installation as all of my desktops. The Desktops, with the new “Endpoint Suite” as it’s now called, does not have the Sharepoint issue.

Oh, in that case I guess you could just uninstall the sharepoint shield.

Go to programs and features (or add/remove programs depending on your version) - pick the avast product and hit the uninstall/change (or modify) button… In the setup window go through the change workflow and uncheck sharepoint sheild (and any others you don’t intend to use on that server)…

That’s the strange thing. I did that and Sharepoint is not even in the list to add or remove, yet the shield is trying to run and i’m getting the yellow exclaimation and “Sharepoint Shield is waiting for the Sharepoint Services to start”.

I hate to have to do a complete uninstall on the server only because it has to reboot - which around here has to be scheduled.

But thanks for your help. I appreciate your time very much.
