I was typing a mile a minute when YOUR STUPID COMPUTER REBOOT PROMPT CAME UP!! Within a few milliseconds, mid-typing, I hit the space key and it promptly closed all my programs without asking me and restarted my computer.
Lately, avast have been making people little ticked, myself including and rightfully so, but you my friend taking this to a next level, maybe you should consider some sort of anger management
Simply set applications from stealing focus and it will not happen.
Another way is to set the used text editor to always stay on top.
The problem is not avavst here as it could happen with any application.
It is the user that has choosen to work with the current settings.
That’s BS and you know it Eddy. The system reboot notification should NOT accept keyboard commands like Space bar (because shit like what happened to that user will happen and I know them from personal experience and I hate that). It should be click only, preferably as a popup above taskbar in the right bottom corner, not in the middle of the frigging screen. Meaning it won’t just accept commands from actions you are currently doing just because it decided to popup right while you were using those commands. Or it could easily be resolved with a second popup asking “Are you sure?” to avoid stuff like this. avast! used to be AV with best UI and features design. But like with protection, they created an absolute incoherent mess with their interface and functions. And the way they aren’t fixing things and they keep on breaking stuff, I’m not sure they’ll ever be able to fix this mess. They just seem incapable of sitting down, talking about all the problems and fixing them. They just aren’t.

That’s why I’ve stopped reporting glitches directly to avast for a while now. Things I’ve reported over a year ago and then few months ago aren’t even touched, although I had emails back “We will work on things” sure.
I’ve been puzzled for some time now, what on earth possessed avast to go the route they did and still do I mean they are smart people but can’t they see the biggest picture of what this is leading to.
Few years back if you were to goggled and ask about avast, you would get feedback “great product” that has changed tremendously.
I’d certainly like to know the program version - and if available, any other circumstances (like if this was a repeated request, if a program update was performed previously etc.)
I reported this issue previously and it should be fixed in the latest release version of the program.
If i was CaptainHypertext i would change edit the title to something more proper if editing is possible…
I know avast is not the only program that has done this to me before i get to far I stop typing and copy what i have typed so far paste notepad, wordpad, word proc. which ever then i save it to flash-drive. it’s a pain to stop typing but I have lost lots of work because of programs causing pc to restart .
I can see how it can piss people off like CaptainHypertext typing/working for hours or what not, all was a lost when his comp restarted.
I thought avast had a option so popups will not popup at anytime, yes you can turn off the popups info, updates, warnings and Alerts. The catch is that the avast product must be premium products…
anyhow avast system reboot notification shouldn’t accept keyboard commands, space bar, not alone any popups unless you have clicked on that that popup other wise should be mouse click only. gaming mode stops the popups right?
As far as I know, Gaming Mode hides the popup it doesn’t stop it.
It’s one of the reasons most of us caution against it’s use as a way to bypass the popups.
Well, to add some clarification, I actually like Avast for the most part. Yeah, there’s been some bloat put in there over time (grime fighter, safezone browser) and some other general annoyances like trying to deal with false positives, but I like that it’s free and I can set it up with relative ease. And it seems to do a good job keeping my computer safe.
That popup just ticked me off. I had like, 20 scripts open and two of them were being modified at the time. I only got set back about 20 minutes of work, but on top of that was the fact that I had a bunch of windows open, browsers with bunches of tabs, music playing, and lost some of the work I had been doing.
And yes, I had already clicked “postpost for an hour”, because I had all this stuff open when I came back to my computer. Reboot is a powerful, deadly command, and once it begins, you have only a moment to stop your car before it gleefully drives into the lake. Has the new version changed the popup? If not, I would definitely do a double confirm on that.
That’s what made me mad at avast, was how easy it was to make that slip up. I hate it when ANY program does that…and they do a lot (I’m looking at you, Windows Update).
@igor
I’m currently on version 11.2.2262, so it would have been whatever version came right before that (I usually keep it pretty up to date).
This is the primary reason for setting program updates to ASK.
That way, you can decide when you’re ready to update and reboot after YOU allowed the update.
CaptainHypertext: Would it be possible to get the content of your Avast log folder? (C:\ProgramData\Avast Software\Avast\log)
I’d like to let it checked… because I agree that this behavior is really nasty.
You could e.g. pack it into an archive (with some unique name) and upload it to ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming (and post the filename so that I know what to look for).
Thanks.

That is one reason why I set Windows Update to let me choose which updates i want to download and install… There was onetime let windows update do the updates automatically after all updates was installed my computer barely run keep freezing up, took for ever to open any programs, there was constant lag. i will never allow wins update be set on automatic again…
