Received a Suspicious Charge

Hello,

I was looking at my bank statement today and I received this charge:

Dri*avast Software 9529084089 Mn 1 $53.24

I only have free avast and don’t want the kind you pay for. I don’t have money to buy antivirus protection or I’d have done so originally.

How can I speak to someone AT avast to have this charge rescinded?

Thanks in Adavance,

Chris

Things like this have been explained many times already.

Did you ever have a trial version of avast internet security ?
Some require that you give payment details so that at the end of the trial the payment is processed.

If not, I don’t know how they would get your payment details.
Dri* stands for Digital River one of the payment processing agents for avast products.

See this FAQ entry https://www.avast.com/en-us/faq.php?article=AVKB24#idt_0430 on how to seek a refund.

I’ve only ever had the Free Avast. I’ve had it for 8 years and never paid a dime to them.

Now, all of a sudden, there’s a $50+ charge.

That’s why I was wondering if it’s NOT Avast but some sort of scam.

Saw previous posts. Never saw an adequate answer. If I’ve NEVER upgraded my Avast and have ALWAYS had it for free, where then does a mystery charge like this come from?

Could it be a virus or a scam? Someone said it was but I didn’t see any links to provide further info.

For the record, Eddie, if you act like someone ignorant and give them a basic link (one I and most folks have already looked into already) then you’re not actually helping.

Chris

Whilst there is always a possibility of a scam, but since the reference “Dri*avast Software 9529084089 Mn 1 $53.24” mentions avast, they should be able to check their records of any such order number.

Personally I would get the action on a refund going as soon as possible so they can investigate.

The charge is also somewhat strange as I don’t recognise it from normal avast products of 39.99 and 59.99.

I’ve spoken to two individuals on the phone for approximately a combined hour and half. Joshua and Frederick, I believe.

What I was told was that the only way to initiate an investigation was to send in a ticket. They directed me to the ticket page of the site and I filled it out. Frederick informed me that for the ID # just to type in ten 0’s. I asked him to repeat and he said, again, type ten 0’s. I filled the who ticket out and when I hit submit, literally nothing happens. I refreshed the page and reentered all my info and hit submit and, again, NOTHING happens.

It doesn’t tell me i entered something wrong, it doesn’t direct me to another page, it simply sits there as if I hadn’t clicked the button.

If I click ANYTHING else it will direct me to that page, but hitting submit is an utter waste of time.

I’m sorry if I come off a bit unhinged but spending a day off talking to unhelpful support staff who just tried to sell me on their computer repair/support services and told me I cannot speak to their billing department directly, only via a ticket process that, apparently doesn’t work has me a bit worked up.

I’ve already contacted my bank to tell them what happened and will continue to try to submit this ticket, though I feel like I’m just banging my head against a wall.

The reason none of the respondents in this topic suggested telephone support is that they can’t deal with orders/refunds as they are a 3rd party support service dealing with program support only. They don’t have access to order/payment information, which is why they pushed you towards the support ticket system as we did.

Why they gave you the instruction to use 10x0’s is beyond me when you have a 10 digit order number from your first post 9529084089. What I don’t know (as an avast user) is if there is some sort of validation of the data input in the form and if so why it didn’t display any errors (if there were any).

Update:
I have seen another topic today that reports the support ticked does nothing so it would appear to be a server/background service issue https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=194640.0.

Hello chrisnabakowski,

The charge corresponds to the renewal of the license to Avast Internet Security you purchased back on January 2015. I am cancelling the auto renewal and issuing the refund, as you requested.

Hi i also recieved this charge.
Would you be able to cancel any auto renewals i have to please.
