Hi marieandgordon,

Almost certainly they are malware files: You will need to run a boot time scan with avast!, also scans with Ad-Aware and spybot Search & Destroy. Ewido and a-Squared are also recommended.

Ewido http://www.ewido.net/en/

a-Squared http://www.emsisoft.com/en/

Ad-Aware http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html

Spybot Search & Destroy http://www.safer-networking.org/

Make a note of the name of any malware detected in these files: dc[n] files in the recycle bin seem to be a symptom of several different types of malware. If none of the above cure the problem, there are specialist tools available if we know exactly what the infection is.

Another option is to submit the files to Jotti:

i have have ran ad aware, spybot, edwibo as i usually do evey other day,and just installed and ran a squared. They showed nothing. Cant send to jotti as the files wont go anywhere. will try a boot scan when i turn off

Hello to you, marieandgordon,

Try to use this one on it:
http://www3.telus.net/_/replacer/ and then get killbox from here:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/killbox.php

That will do the trick, I think. But after you used replacer, you certainly may be able to upload to jotti. Anxious to find what malware you had at your hands this time?

yours sincerely,

It is one of those bugs in Windows 98/98SE/ME OS. Sometimes files tend to stuck in Recycle Bin (actually in between here and nowhere) and there is simply nothing you can do about it, except good old reformat. I am not saying your case has to be the same, just mentioned the fact. Besides, you never said what OS you have.

This may be a system glitch: here are a couple of links you could try.

Could you post a HijackThis! log just so we could check that nothing is starting from recyclers?

Good luck.

Hi marieandgordon,

If you are on Windows 98 SE, and wants it safer, why not consider this: http://exuberant.ms11.net/98sesp.html
I am running the Dutch version now for a couple of month, not a glitch, super. There is a Polish/Turkish version also. I changed because it had no drivers for USB 2.0 aboard, now with the update to Windows 98 SE Unofficial ServicePack 2.0 I included all this. (some people in the past said this was impossible).
If the computer has space for it, get RestoreIt, and backup regurarly. Win 98 SE Unofficial SP2.0 was an eye-opener. Enjoy,
