Hello. I got the update today, and now Task Manager shows that “RegSvr.exe” is running constantly. I looked it up on Google and people say that this is a virus that’s a key/mouselogger and messes with other programs. Scanned it with MalwareBytes, Avast and Security Task Manager (wich calls it “Avast Antivirus installer”), and they all say that it’s harmless, though I’m not sure because it doesn’t let me close it with Task Manager and that’s kinda suspicious.
Could someone tell me if it’s safe or not? I’m pretty sure this program wasn’t on my computer prior to this update. Also, I’m using Windows XP SP3 by the way.
Too many words; from what I’ve got, you have to scan with MalwareBytes, then scan the scanlog with 500 other antiviruses, then send that to someone? I’m not very computer savvy, so it all sounds pretty complicated. Also, as I said I’m pretty sure this file came from the latest Avast update.
You don’t have to scan with 500 other AVs, nor do you have to send it to someone.
Take a breath and don’t look at the whole picture at once.
In this case you need to do just one analysis scan and attach the resultant files to your next post. You need to download and run the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool (FRST). So look for that instruction in the topic link you were given and take things a step at a time.
Download FRST and save it to your desktop.
Run FRST as outlined in the instructions topic.
Find and attach the two files that FRST generates.
When you next post under the Reply text window there is an ‘Attachments and other options’ link, clicking that expands it and allows you to attach the two files to your next post.
Never mind, the program didn’t show up in the Task Manager again after I turned on the PC today. I guess it was just stuck there after the update finished installing for some reason. Sorry for wasting everybody’s time.
