Hi chabbo,

It could well have been you were using two resident av solutions next to each other, that is not enhancing security it is threatening it. Just compare it that you have a house that you like to be guarded by two ferocious dogs to keep intruders out and they immediately started to fight each other over intruder traces. So use one resident av solution (that scans in the background), you further can add several non-resident solutions to close the vulnerability gap, like DrWebCureIt on a pendrive (always download the latest version), MBAM and SAS anti-malware on demand scanners, keep all your third party software up to date and fully patched, do check that with PSI Secunia, download here: http://secunia.com/PSISetup.exe

Hi chabbo,

Try this first:
Click Start >> Run >>
Type the follow command in the Open box.
“net.exe stop wuauserv” (w/o quotes)
Press Ok

Repeat the same for the following commands:

regsvr32.exe wuapi.dll
regsvr32.exe wups.dll
regsvr32.exe wuaueng.dll
regsvr32.exe wucltui.dll
regsvr32.exe MSXML3.dll
regsvr32.exe qmgr.dll
regsvr32.exe qmgrprxy.dll
net.exe start wuauserv

Restart the machine and try again.

If that does not work try a system restore to a point in time before the problem arose, how to info here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/systemrestore.mspx

Also consider this error info: http://kb.ucla.edu/articles/svchostexe---application-error
