Renaming computers

Hello,

I’m having some trouble trying to rename computers from ‘normal’ groups. I can rename the computers but then, I have the computers twice (in the dynamic groups) with the same ip address and when I get the reports dealing with VPS version and program version, I have 2 records from the same computer: one with the correct version and old name and another with a wrong version and right name. Is there a way to tell ADNM to focus on ip address instead of ‘Netbios’ names ?

why would you rename the computer inside ADNM?

you have a computer, rename the computer itself.
If you did a fresh install of the computer with a different name then possibly you can have AD garbage and you need to throw away the accounts in AD.

Thank you for the answer but I’m not asking if renaming computers in the AD is better than doing it in the Avast! Catalog. I just wanted to know if there was a way that ADNM could focus on ip addresses instead of NT LAN MAN or AD Computer names.

yes, and i gave u an option where it MIGHT be possible in the ADNM console to do what you ask… doesnt garantee that it works…

but i wonder what the logic is behind your wish to rename computers and only work with ip addresses… and conclude that what you want is very work intensive and not garanteed to work… thats all
