Renewals

Hi,

I purchased Avast Pro just over a year ago and had not recieved ANY email regarding renewals (discounted or not). It expired today and I found this out during an update, I was prompted with “the license key for this product is invalid or has expired” … so this is how I was notified. Problem is, no more updates until my subs. update is sorted.

I have emailed support and sales, and also thought posting here may give me some answers as to why this quite important step in the notification/update process has not been completed.

I could just purchase it again, but that means re-registering and losing on a potential 30% discount when purchasing/updating via ShareIT again.

Any help welcome.

Cheers!

Is your e-mail address (the one you registered with originally) still valid?

Hi,

Yes the email address I purchased the product under is still valid (the same one I used for this forum registration in fact :))

I got the same error message today (Feb. 1). I’ve been using Avast! Home for well over a year, and had no problems with updates until today.

I checked the “About” box, and it shows the registration key is still entered. (I re-entered it, just to make sure.) It also lists these lines:

  • Expiration: Never
  • Updates expiration: Wed., Feb. 01, 2006

Why would the updates expire? Why have “no expiration” for the product, if the updates are not available?

The program code is what doesn’t expire, you can continue using that.

You only need to reregister and you will be sent another registration key valid for a further 14 months of free updates avast! 4 Home Registration

UpLateVA, you simply have to (re-)register every year with the Home version, nothing more.

R3BOOT, did you get an answer from the sales guys? If not, please PM me your registration e-mail.

Thanks, guys. After posting my message, I re-registered the software, got a new registration key, and the updates are now working fine.

It appears that updates are supposed to expire after about 1 year (see
http://www.avast.com/i_kat_207.php?lang=ENG ). I’m not sure why the “About” box lists different expirations for the software (“never”) and the updates (a specific date), since updates are critical for proper operation of the program.

The new email from Avast clarifies that the registration is good for 12 months and will have to be renewed. (The earlier email from Avast, in late 2004, made no mention of renewal.) After entering the registration key, the “About” box shows an update expiration date 14 months from now.

It might be helpful for Avast to send out email messages to registered users shortly before their scheduled expiration dates, reminding them that they need to renew. Also, I’d suggest rewording the registration information in the “About” box, to eliminate the “Expiration: Never” line – which would serve to emphasize that update eligibility will expire and registration needs to be renewed.

I should note that the registration comment is a very minor point. I think Avast! is an excellent program, and I’ve been quite happy with it. Also, this support forum is very helpful.

Program never expires, updates do. So program itself will still work even if updates are not applied anymore. Home license has 14 months and then you have to re-register.
Thats all

UpLateVA … please read the above posts by DavidR & RejZoR again very carefully.

I got an on-screen notification that my Avast registration was about
to expire, so I went to the registration page, filled out the form,
and was sent an email that provided a new number.

Following instructions, I copied and pasted it into the License Key
field, pressed OK, and got the following message:
Invalid license number!

What is the problem? Please let me know if you have any advice.

Hi and welcome Harold
im predicting that when you cut and pasted the licence key , you got the space in front pasted as well .
give it another try and see if im wrong
good luck

Please also make sure that you have installed at least 4.6 version of program. Only 4.6 or higher can accept new keys.

As to current version, here’s what I’m told:

Information about current update:
Total time: 1:14

  • Program: Already up to date
    (current version 4.6.763)
  • Vps: Already up to date
    (current version 0607-1)

Server: download9.avast.com (69.56.132.146)
Downloaded files: 3 (0.03 KB)
Download time: 3 s

The “About” page says this:

Updates expiration: Wednesday, February 1, 2006 11:47:26

The warning notices didn’t start until yesterday, however, and my system clock is set correctly.

This is obviously a bug in the program. There are no “extra spaces” on my part. This is extremely frustrating…
