Hey guys, I was doing a scan today and Avast found malware on a file… to be more specific its type was a Dropper. So I was curious and uploaded it to virustotal to see what other AV’s would catch it, most did. The recommended action was to repair the file. So I did that. I checked to see the same file was still there after it had finished so I did a scan again but Avast didn’t find anything. I uploaded that same file to virustotal and all the same AV’s from before said it was malware, only Avast didn’t. So, I’m confused what should I do now? Should I just delete the file? :-\
Could you provide more details -
what file was it? - name, directory address, type, date loaded, modified, etc… if you can
virustotal results - both of them if possible, but the final one anyway - only need the links
what avast are you using?
Sorry, I didn’t save the Avast screenshot but here is the virustotal link https://www.virustotal.com/analisis/864689a9cbb2a48b8a43521d5eb05f7b64cb19b7d9a737ebd2a958c6f0b327ed-1266905374
I am using Avast 4.8.
*EDIT that’s the virus total link after Avast repaired the file.
Hmm I’m not sure about repairing these video files. Can you get a clean download of it somewhere. If so, I would rid myself of that (.wmv) file anyway.
I would also do a Windows cleanup using utility in System Tools - and choose More Options tab and remove all but the most recent Restore point - then run a boot-time scan (quick) to see if any more malware instances are picked up.
