Repeat of FlashGet Trojan?

Avast has just quarantined FlashGet/FGUpdate/updates.exe as Win32:Trojan-gen {Other}. That happened while I was using FlashGet to download a file.

This looks similar to an outbreak in 2008-03 though the names are different.

Should I modify FlashGet/FGUpdate3.ini which might try downloading another trojan?

Some manufactures claim that FlashGet is adware. Some say it’s clean.
In this case you should judge if it an avast false positive, maybe summiting the file to www.virustotal.com

As far as I can see FlashGet had been classified as adware in the past but was cleaned up.

My report is about a potential hack of the update mechanism on the web site. That seemed to be Kaspersky’s opinion about the outbreak in March.

VirusTotal reports that 15/35 AV engines flag the file updates.exe as infected.

Yep it just got me too. I might have to stop using this program as it has no protections from this happening again. Flashget is not a Trojan but it is very susceptible to them through the updates.

It’s an adware for many antivirus manufactures…

Why not try leechget. It is the one I use and have never had a problem with it http://www.leechget.net/en/
