As you know I’ve been decades long Avast supporter and fan, but ever since the change of forum software few years ago at this point to whatever" this thing here is, I lost basically all interest to participate in community and help people. Hence why I barely comment on anything for last few years at this point.
Not only this forum software is absolutely terrible in terms of legibility and structure, navigating through categories is so monumentally stupid I cannot understand who designed this, it’s also plagued with constant errors and constant blocks. Oh you clicked BACK button in browser instead of some direct category, goodbye, you’re now blocked for 10 minutes. What the hell is this?! Why is it doing this nonsense ALL THE FREAKING TIME?! The other day someone posted a link to Norton’s forums in regards to Avast One interface design and it blocked me when I tried to follow the link. Like, what the hell man?!
I do not understand it. Whose idea was to run this stupid forum this way? It’s the most awful experience I’ve had on any forum and I’ve been participating on many of them for over 25 years. It is THAT bad.
Just go back to stock InvisionPowerBoard or even phpBB. And for god sake fix the stupid Cloudfront protection, it’s absurd how broken and trigger happy it is. I’ve literally not witnessed anything this absurd on any other forum. Ever.

Cloudfront for sure, this is a right royal pain in the backside.
The Forum Software, well that I’m not so sure about, having taken a long time to get used to its quirks.
This forum software is terrible. The layout is so bad and categories just randomly hidden under absolute trainwreck of a dropdown menu is just so god awful. phpBB has so much better structuring of subforums compared to this mess you don’t even need any getting used to, it’s just natural.

Considering the amount of people who can’t seem to find their language subforum and just post in the main English forum, or even who just post their technical questions in General, I agree that navigation is exceptionally stupid here.
Yeah it’s under “Show more” and my biggest issue is that there just isn’t a “back button” where you could go back to main forum tree of subforums. If you use BACK button in browser stupid Cloudflare goes absolutely bananas for some dumb reason and if you avoid that your only option is the dropdown menu of all subforums which is just so stupid way to navigate.
Strange that I, just used the Back Arrow in Firefox and it went to the previous topic I was replying in.
Or is this just from the Tree structure (I use this term loosely as there isn’t a tree giving a visual tree spread) of the forum, so I tried this.
From Community selected > Avast One, then > Avast One for Android > to a Topic.
I then used the back < arrow in Firefox and it reversed the selections back to the Community.
I don’t know what it is that trips is CONSTANTLY for me. Could be use of privacy extensions (AdGuard, Ghostery, Privacy Badger and Local CDN) in Firefox paired with NextDNS filtering with HaGeZi Ultimate. It just trips Cloudfront NON STOP and it’s insanely annoying.
I only have uMatrix and uBlock Origin Lite (but no filtering, lowest setting for the forum) as related add-ons.
I don’t know if this might also be relevant, I have excluded the community(.)avast(.)com in the Web Shield/Guard.
You can try disabling one protection at a time to test if the forum still freaks out. I’d start with the DNS filtering. Then CDN.
I run uBlock Origin full version with all default filters enabled, and I use a VPN, and the forum seems to behave the last year or so. Including going back and forth pages in Firefox.
Yeah, absolutely not, I’m not turning my DNS filtering off. It’s network wide for all devices on it and the amount of junk they filter they are never getting turned off. Also I’m not having issues with ANY other webpage or forum, just Avast forum is absolute nightmare to use.
You’re the only one seemingly having this issue. Whatever the conflict is, we can’t do tests for you.
I agree it is a waste of time with this forum for all the reasons you said.
I literally don’t have ANY of these issues on ANY other forum. It’s not a my problem, it’s a THIS FORUM problem. Period.
And if you EVER want to narrow down why, you’ll have to exclude causes by testing.
You can’t say if the forum is the problem or one of your many blocking tools. Only that the combination is problematic. Might be the forum is configured improperly, sure. Might also be something on your end that only trips up here. Might be stuff goes wrong more often and you just don’t even notice.
Don’t be so sure you know who’s to blame. Period.
And yet not a single other forum has problems with ANY of it. Just this one. What does that tell you?
That it just so happens that you visit forums that don’t have an issue. There might be a thousand others that do, but you won’t ever know. Your conclusion that it MUST be this forum that’s at fault could be true or it couldn’t. Without further testing your problems are anecdotal.
Ask yourself this: you’re the one running a lot of tools, and you’re the one with these weird problems. Might there be correlation? If the forum misbehaved as much for others, you’d expect more posts from people.
It could even be that this forum is acting correctly by constantly blocking your access, and that other forums you visit are lax in security and THAT is the reason you don’t trip CloudFlare there. Who knows….
This is a security forum. Expecting people to have a lot of “tools” like this should be a given.
I agree. So is expecting the forum and servers to be strict. Which might clash with non-standard access.
Again: test what part of your suite of protection triggers the response. Then at least you have something specific to mention in the search for the problem. It really still isn’t clear where exactly the problem lies.
