ps: I’m just reporting the news, I don’t support the move towards Linux or MAC on the desktop. This said they’re developing Chrome OS, and it’s legitimate for a company to adopt its own product, which is what they intend to do progressively.
Who cares what Google does in their own offices? I see this as their way to get internal alpha and beta testing on their own upcoming (and I believe doomed to failure) OS. They certainly have no ground to stand on regarding security since theirs is not that great either. Windows will remain the dominant OS and deservedly so.
will just use the Linux Kernel, special version compiled for Google, and the interface won’t be comparable to any other distro (ie no Gnome no KDE etc…)…so, no, not another flavor at all. The OS is centralized around Google Chrome + web apps. You won’t be able to install anything else, ie no external application.
won’t need it, I have no intention to use it. +, at the contrary of what was said in the beginning when ChromeOS was announced, it will be exclusively bundled with a few netbooks, so not “officially” downloadable for use on PCs…
I wonder if they’ll decide tell Windows users to switch to Mac or Linux in order to use their services (Blogger, Chrome, Youtube, etc.) like they did to their employees.
I think that would be a dumb move on their part. Most (actually all of it I guess) of their revenue is based off of advertising, and if 80% of their users are on windows, they would lose a lot of money.
No, I’m pretty sure they’ll let windows users continue using their services…
