Yesterday evening (Sunday 17 November 2024) at approximately 8:00pm (UTC+2, Athens time), while checking my emails, I noticed in my junk box an email from a sender I did not know. I opened it and there was an email saying that from sometime I am a victim of a trojan horse which enables the sender to have access to all my accounts, emails, webcam and mike. If I want to get rid of it I have to pay $1500 in a bitcoin account within 48hours, or else…
I always have active the AVAST products (Premium Security, VPN and AntiTrack) and the moment I received the threatening email I performed a complete check on my hard drive and software. Nothing was found, although I noticed that three shortcut icons on my screen were out of place. The strange thing was that when I moved the email to the deleted folder and checked again, it was not there, as if vanished. Anyway can anybody tell me if I should ignore it or shall I wipe my hard drive clean and take more appropriate actions and what.
