Dear Forum Gurus and Users,

Should I download these eight Window$ updates (automatically identified by Micro$oft) given my pc setup below?

  • I don’t even have Micro$oft Office 2007 on my computer?!?!?!
  • What is CAPICOM? Do I need to download this update?

Thanks in advance and keep up the great work!!!

Hi Tech,

I suppose my main question is do I need them if I don’t have the full Office 2007 or Office 2003 on my system?

Are you able to shed any light on what CAPICOM is and if this update is required?

Thanks in advance!

If Windows Update is asking for them, I suggest you install and don’t worry about. Sometimes, just a part of Office will require the updates as the full program is installed. Which part of Office do you have?

CAPICOM is a Windows component that provides services to programs that enable security that is based on cryptography. This includes functionality for authentication that uses digital signatures, for enveloping messages, and for encrypting and decrypting data.

Hi Tech,

I have the full version Office XP (2002) installed (Excel, Word, Powerpoint, Outlook, Access).

In addition I ONLY have Microsoft Picture Manager from Office 2003.

Are you 100% sure I should install the Office 2003 update if I only have one component from it installed?

Are you 100% sure I should install the Office 2007 updates if I have NONE of its components installed?

Thanks for the Capicom definition - do I need to install this?

Thanks again Tech!

No. I’m not from Microsoft. I can’t be sure 100% about nothing with Microsoft.
What I think is that if Windows Update is warning you about it, go ahead.

It’s 2007 compatibility and not 2007 itself… you can be able to manage Office 2007 documents this way.

Well, the same as above… it’s a suggested/necessary component… sleep free of this worry and install it is my suggestion, again, I’m not from Microsoft, just an user.

Thanks Tech, the support is much appreciated!

Have a great week!

At least we can say that our support is faster than Microsoft one, don’t you think?

Indeed Tech.

I only run Micro$oft Window$ because it came pre-loaded on my system.

Then minute it fucks up, I will format the computer and load Ubuntu on.

Thanks again for your help!

A little lighter on the language, please.

Thanks!

Best Regards…

Avastfan1, read about my experience with Ubuntu:

It is now quite happily running XP Pro with 512MB RAM even though it is a bit slow.

Avastfan1,
Please edit you post #8.
This is a family forum. Thanks.
