How do I reset the security password in the settings section? I tried uninstall and reinstall - done in safe mode - and it still asks for the password. I do not see any forgot password link.

  1. Remove avast from the add/remove function once that’s done, reboot and then use the
    avast! removal tool which will remove the remaining items not uninstalled in step 1
  2. The removal tool for avast! Antivirus : http://files.avast.com/files/eng/aswclear6.exe
  3. Once that done, reboot again and then re-install avast.

Uh…why would anyone password protect avast? Unless you have someone who uses your pc and likes to screw with your settings. If that is the case…you might want to re-think your pc usage rules. You might also elevate avast to “administrator”. ???
