Below I have copied part of the help page for Resident Protection: Internet Mail - SMTP.
My question is this possible on Windows 98 S.E as I can’t seem to see the option within Avast that says…
Allow sending of infected mail. avast! will let you send the message containing a virus. It is useful e.g. when you want to send us an infected file for analysis.
Here is the full copied page from the help file…
Resident Protection: Internet Mail - SMTP
This page sets up avast! behavior when scanning the outgoing e-mails.
· Scan outbound mail. avast! will scan outgoing e-mail messages sent by SMTP protocol.
· Allow sending of infected mail. avast! will let you send the message containing a virus. It is useful e.g. when you want to send us an infected file for analysis.
· Insert note into clean message. avast! adds a note into infected messages. If you set this option, a note will be added even into clean (virus-free) messages.
Well apart from the fact the submission process has changed, files sent for analysis are transfered during a VPS or Program update (manual or auto). First the updated elements are downloaded, then the file submission is uploaded and then the updated elements are installed.
Though I don’t know if this new submission is supported in win9x but I would think it should.
I don’t know if the old submission process works with win9x as the normal email accounts are amended to have a vast scan them, though that shouldn’t be an issue if emails are sent by avast as it just places in in your outbox so it gets sent from there.
At least that is my understanding of what happens on my system.
The option is still reported as Email to Alwil (right clicking on the file within the Chest), but it doesn’t actually use email but uploads to avast using HTTP protocol during the update. The help file just hasn’t been changed.
I was referring to the help file which resides in the Avast program file folder on my computer not the one on the Avast web site.
Do they (help files on computer) get updated too when there is a program update? I just checked the creation date on properties for the help file, and it said 18th April 2008
If they change… there will be more than 20 languages to be translated into… they avoid help files changing… I’ve translated last changes quite some time ago…
