Ok thank you for this information
As agreed I have tested Avast! Internet Security with Thunderbird, but the problem is identical to Windows Live Mail: Unable to receive or send emails when the SSL checkbox is disabled.
I see on the forum that other people have the same problem as mine: http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=58711.0
I raise the subject. Is someone on the team think that the problem Alwil scan email with Windows Live Mail and Thunderbird will be studied for a possible fix?
Thanks in advance
This is weird…
Please give more info:
- Operating Sytem (32 or 64 bit, XP, Vista, 7)?
- What is your Email-provider?
- Any other software installed like firewall or other AV-software?
- What AV-software was installed previously before you installed avast5?
…any spam filter installed ?
I had some issues using SPAMIHILATOR but in the end everything works as it is supposed to …

My system is Windows 7 and I work on a PC laptop. My ISP is Numéricable (fiber optics). The firewall I use is that of Windows in “Public”. I tried to disable but that does not change the problem that I have explained here … For Av installed before Avast! the answer is: Trend Micro (TIS Pro) and Avira (after security) but I cleaned the registry to remove all the keys so that drivers can cause some conflicts. Sorry I am repeating myself but I had no problem with the beta version of Avast! Internet Security and though I had already pre-installed Trend Micro.

No filter and no anti-spam and never installed before …
Thanks
…I was more interested in the email-provider, not the ISP.
What is the “@xxxx.xxx” part of your email? (Like “@web.de” or “@gmail.com”)
I use gmail.com and hotmail.fr … I tested with a hotmail.com address and the problem is identical. Then I started these tests with several domain names I own: still the same problem.
…U activated POP within gmails settings (webmail-browser), don´t ya?!

Sorry, I do not understand what you wonder …
There must be something specific to your configuration.
GMail works fine with Thunderbird/Avast IS - that’s a configuration I use. (IMAP and SMTP)
I’m sorry, I am out of ideas and I am afraid I can’t help.
I’ll try to bring this to a mod’s attention, so “stay tuned to this thread”.

Ok thank you to you and wish you a good day.
POP3 Download must be activated…
Thank you for the screenshot. I invite you to read my first post and you will see that my problem is not configuring my mail (remote or my mail client) but to try to understand a really strange problem does not allow me to receive or send emails via SSL / TLS Avast!
This problem is not insurmountable (I continue to use Avast! Security Suite), it is just disturbing …
Thank you
I solved the problem. I replaced all the services of Windows 7 to its original state, then I changed the firewall settings of Windows 7 on the mode “home network” and the same for the firewall Avast! 5.
I do not yet know the cause of the problem but I’m still looking. I think I have been too restrictive with some settings in Windows. For example, the “Server” service was disabled … This may perhaps explain part of the problem.
Anyway mails are now scanned by Avast! 5. Thank you for your help and you’ll be informed as soon as I found the true cause.
Thank you
…nice to hear finally
