[RESOLVED]Unknown Error with avast no shields working at all! help!

Hello i updated the avast on my other computer that has windows xp on it 32-bit and nothing is working on avast after reboot and it is the new version.

Should i try the repair option in add and remove program on it or should i just restart my computer and see?

Edit: I’m going to restart the computer and see if that works

Edit: The Restart of the computer didn’t work does anybody on the forums have any advice on how i can fix it ???

I suggest an installation from scratch:

  1. Download the latest version of avast! Uninstall Utility and save it.
  2. Download the latest avast! version and save it.
  3. Uninstall avast from Control Panel (if possible). If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after that.
  4. Run the avast! Uninstall Utility saved on 1. If, for any reason, you can’t run it, try booting in Safe Mode and doing it from there. Anyway, boot after you’ve run it.
  5. Install avast! using the setup saved on 2. Boot.
  6. Register your free copy or add the license key for Pro.
  7. Check and post the results.

Hello the steps work and avast is working.

BTW i heard the virus data base updates new sound on my acer labtop computer it still just says virus database has been updated should i get the new sounds if so how?

Some sounds remain the same as version 4.8 (very similar at least).
You can configure the sounds in avast settings > Sounds.
