Resource hungry?

Been using AVG Free for years now, never had an issue.
They just upgraded to version 9 and it is a pig to install, with all sorts of error messages and secondary program files needed, so time for a change. It also tried to take up a big chunk of disk space.
All the reviews of Avast say it’s good, small, fast…

Now I have the Avast home software running, it has eaten 98MB of disk. 46MB is taken up by a ‘setup’ folder which can’t be deleted.

Have I done something wrong in the install, or is this really the small, lean program everyone else praises?

Only 17Mb bigger than the bloated AVG stuff…

Honestly, nobody really cares these days how much the program takes on disk - the focus is more on memory and CPU usage.
So yes, 100MB sounds reasonable.

avast! 5 will take even more space - so that it can take less memory and use less CPU.

You could always try Comodo Internet Security that takes up only 70mb of disk space read about it here http://www.comodo.com/home/internet-security/free-internet-security.php

I won’t recommend CIS because it is a memory hog.

It fairs as well if not better then avast in memory use, when scanning it can take a fair bit then it drops after.

welcome to the forums, clogman.

How did you uninstall AVG ?
