I have 1g RAM on a fast computer. I need to watch resources. I see that some experts here add MB-Pro.
Question - how much RAM does it use, as seen in Process Explorer, if it were allowed to run at startup and be an ever-present service? Currently I just use MB on demand - see my sig
This is what Malwarebytes 2 RC is currently using on my win 8.1 system, if needed you should be able to add more ram to your system, ram is cheap and you’ll feel like you have a new system with the extra speed gained.
As a general rule anymore I would suggest at least one more GB.
Now days it is necessary to have at the very least 2 GB RAM.
Any less than that and you will get a noticeable slowdown in software loading
and extremely high CPU usage.
I have known of XP users having trouble running MBAM Pro in XP. I am not one of them though; However, I have heard that new MBAM V. 2 is more XP friendly. You can wait and see. Look at my stats
Having only 1GB on a fast system is likely to hamper said fast computer to start with as you end up with more swapping in and out of memory to the pagefile.sys.
The mbamservice.exe can get a bit a bit of a resource hog at times, this shows the three mbam services in mbam pro, there is one more service mbam.exe also dives in when you open the the mbam GUI, so collectively it uses a lot of ram.
So you have to be careful on the collective number of programs that you use and close them when not in use and I’m not talking about security based programs here. You can now probably see that 1GB of RAM isn’t very much.
Others have given good feedback…for less $75 do this…
- Upgrade your 1GB RAM to 4GB
- Buy MBAM Pro for lifetime license for $24 while it last…once v2.0 comes out this lifetime license will go away.
You can run Avast & MBAM Pro both “active” shields…just make sure if you run scheduled scans put them at different times.
I assume by “fast PC” you are good on other resources.
I’ll hold my comment on “XP”.
As showing in my Sig, I run MBam Premium (Real-Time) on my XP with 1GB RAM
Obviously, if you can upgrade your RAM that’s ideal, I cannot as Motherboard doesn’t allow.
Anyway, for the RAM available I get along as XP is not my Production OS.
Excellent. Thank you all for your screenies and nice tips.
And thanks for restraint on the XP doomsday projections, as well as about MB imminent licensing changes.
This laptop I could upgrade to 1.5g, that’s all. It’s vital that I keep it for several things we do.
I might grab and put MB on another box (unknown and totally scary Win7).
You’re welcome.
As suggested, well worth purchasing the lifetime license for MBAM before it goes to annual license policy. Even if you don’t immediately use it.
