Restart After Update

Free Version: 25.410068a

When the desktop computer was booted up, Avast stated that an update had been installed so, consequently, the device had to be restarted.

After that was done, there was a ‘summary page’ stating what features and fixes had been updated

Additionally, at the bottom of the page, there were 2 settings with default check-marks beside them, but I did not notice their content.

Q1a. Specifically, what are these settings?

A:

Q1b. Where do I navigate to view these settings again and, additionally, to ‘change’ them? (as in to ‘check’ or ‘to un-check’ them).

A:

The clarifications are appreciated.

I have yet to update to 25.4.xxxx
Not knowing what the settings where I can’t guess where they might be.

I will try to remember and take a screenshot.

I have my Program Updates set to manual and I rarely shutdown my laptop so I had to do a manual update, which needed a restart after the update.

After the restart I didn’t see any further requirement regarding an update having been done and needing a restart. Nor did I see anything regarding new settings.

The only out of the ordinary thing was the ‘Stay safer on your Phone’ and a Privacy bit, Plus the Avast Store bit.

To be clear, after the device is restarted, there is a ‘delay’ before the ‘pop-up’ page is displayed.

This Avast page displays the features and fixes that were updated

Specifically, at the bottom, on the left side, there were 2 ‘options’ with default check-marks beside them, but I did not notice their content but, instead, ‘X’ out of it.

I didn’t see anything out of the ordinary, other than what I mentioned.

I’m only guessing that you have Program Updates set to Automatic, so when you started that update would have been applied requiring a restart.

That is slightly different from me initiating the Manual Program update whilst windows was running. Which required a restart for it to be applied. No other options or pre-checked boxes.

Virus Def info the same as yours, Program and UI versions in my signature. Edit - the only difference is the - UI version UI 1.0.838 - unless yours is a typo or a genuinely new UI version which may have generated those changes (check marks).

Based on ‘memory’ then, when you have opted to install a Prog Update (at a later time than initially offered), do you recall the 2 ‘options’ at the bottom of the ‘Update Summary’ pop-up page that permit a user to check/un-check these options?

Again, It ‘might’ had something to with adding a Browser Search Engine and/or a Browser Extension and/or reporting program feedback and/or sharing or analyzing data but I am unable to confirm specifics

I have made an Edit in my last reply.

It isn’t opting to install at a different time - My Program Updates are set to Manual. I choose the time to run it when windows and avast are running.

When the update it downloaded I get the requires to restart which I do. The screen shots after the restart are all that I got.

Historically then, do you recall a ‘pop-up’ page being displayed, that gave a ‘summary of changes’ and, further, had an ‘interactive’ section at the bottom, permitting a user to check/un-check two specific options?

Yes, the UI 1.0.838 detail was accurate.

This is how it has been for me for some considerable time, I have had program updates set to manual, so generally no surprises.

A while ago you used to be able to go into the UI and uncheck components that you didn’t want. That however disappeared a few updates ago.
You could try the windows settings Programs - Add Remove Programs > Avast > Modify to open Avast components and see what is there.

I am familiar with Modify Avast Components but, as mentioned. what I am referring to was ‘specific’ to the pop-up page, that was displayed ‘after’ the restart.

This ‘page’ was summary-based (referencing ‘changes’ to the new program update) but it also had an ‘interactive’ section that allowed 2 details to be ‘checked’ or ‘un-checked.’

It had something to with adding a Browser Search Engine and/or a Browser Extension and/or reporting program feedback and/or sharing or analyzing data.

As I can’t see what you did, I honestly can’t comment on what it might have been.

Sorry, but I don’t use Avast Browser extension or Avast Secure Browser, so I would be unlikely to see that if they aren’t installed or in use.

Thanks but I will leave this thread open for someone who has ‘duplicated’ my issue.
