My husband stopped some of the providers, such as the network one, to install some new software. Now I can’t find out how to restart them. Can someone explain how to restart the providers?

Firstly you shouldn’t need to stop any of the providers to install new software, I often wonder what it might be doing that it wants you to disable your AV. There ae only a few security based programs that might have a reasonable reason for this but without a good reason I don’t disable avast to install software. The IE7 installation comes with a request/recommendation to disable AVs.
Now to how to start, right click the avast icon, Resume Provider, and select the providers that are paused. Or left click the avast icon and from the On-Access Scanner window seletc the Provider that is disabled and click Start.
