Yes, you can clear restore points.

The easiest & safest way to do this is by turning off Restore, restart the computer, turn on Restore again, and restart the computer once more.

It’s also worth considering adjusting the amount of HD allocated to Restore Points:
Right click My Computer… Select Properties… System Restore…

The amount of allocated HD is set by the slider.

The default is 12% of the Hard Drive, no matter how large the drive, but the amount that needs to be backed up for a Restore Point is relatively small, and independent of HD size.

I long ago settled for a setting of 3% (approx. 3.8 GB) - a more sensible amount that gives me plenty of Restore Points (currently, 23 Restore points, going back to 7 December).

Note: turning System restore Off and On will revert this setting to the 12% default.

However…

An alternative way to clear out old Restore Points is:

  • in My Computer, Right click on c:\ drive
  • select ‘Properties’ and click the ‘Disk Cleanup’ button (Lower Right).
  • select ‘More Options’… Click the Clean Up button for System Restore (bottom of the panel).

This removes all but the latest Restore Point, and doesn’t require a restart.
