AIS put a file in the Virus Chest about two weeks ago. File name: _1ea662009873_4924_b1fd_dab99610fe28.exe located in the c:\windows\installer folder.
I sent it to the Virus Lab as a possible FP because I had just run a MBAM scan a few minutes before (as part of my daily routine scan, not because I suspected something) which detected nothing. Also, this file had not been modified since 2006 which dates back to when we purchased this PC so that also suggested that this was a FP. I requested on the Virus Lab submittal form to Avast confirmation of a FP or whatever they might find, but I realize that they get way too many submittals to respond. I’ve scanned the file inside the Virus Chest daily and it comes up as “no virus” every time. I believe it was originally marked as Win32 malware, but of course the Virus Chest deletes that entry and replaces it with “no virus” in the virus description section of the Chest. I am experiencing no problems and scans are all clean. My question is since this has scanned clean for several days of test scans, when is it safe to restore?
Thanks.
