I updated from V 7, (registered Internet Security version), to V8 and it has brought my system almost to a standstill. Support is not responding so I have no choice but to revert back to the previous version. Does anyone know how to do that? I’m trying to avoid digging this hole deeper but, left on my own, I’m grasping at straws at this point.
I think only option is to do clean reinstall.
You’ll need tool asw clear which you get here: http://www.avast.com/cs-cz/uninstall-utility

It’s important to remove avast completely, so you first remove it through options in pc remove/change program.
-
Then you must run pc under Safe Mode and use the aswclear to remove remnants of avast 8 ( it’s even suggested you should run it for each version of avast you had installed on pc previously. Be careful when choosing the folder, it’s content will be erased completely)

You can get older version of avast here : http://www.oldapps.com/avast_antivirus.php - scroll down and pick up the version you want to install
And now you should be again protected by avast of your choice
Thank you for the help. I’ve found that if I disable most of the file checking in the settings, my system is somewhat useable. I still have problems with the browsers and some programs where they take a long time to respond but I’m guessing that is some other changes the Avast programers decided I needed to have checked, even though my previous version didn’t have that.
