Trying avast again after reaching my limit with avg’s ads.
Installed avast when avg was mostly gone (it wouldnt uninstall due to setup of avast running), and defender had the av, and firewall.
Avast decides as a result to operate in ‘passive mode’.
Further it greyed out any control to remove itself from passive mode (step 3).
I uninstalled, rebooted and reinstalled.
Why was this necceassary…as most top line AV’s can superseed defender (native) as a matter of course (ease).
Easy rationalised, you said it yourself.
“Installed avast when avg was mostly gone (it wouldn’t uninstall due to setup of avast running), and defender had the av, and firewall.”
You have to uninstall (not mostly gone) your existing AV before installing another AV and preferably after a system restart. This should have Windows activate the Windows Defender AV. When you subsequently install Avast AV windows will automatically disable the Defender AV, so that you only have one active AV running.
