Right click scan tool

Hi folks,

When I do a right click then scan file in windows explorer, It does nothing. I just installed it a week ago for the first time and it was working fine until today. Now, nothing.

Working fine here.No issue.
Do Repair Avast:

  1. Avast GUI → Settings → Troubleshooting
  2. Click on ‘REPAIR APP’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

I did the repair like you said and restarted. Now it hard locks windows explorer. Not what I was hopping for! :frowning:

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

*Free ver.
*Avast program will not open now, so I can not check the version.
*Win 10 x64
*ZoneAlarm
*McAfee

I just did the latest program and signature update before right click stopped working… Then of course the repair totally killed it!

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!

Then:

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Not sure about ZoneAlarm, but there is an antivirus component within it possibly present. McAfee needs to be completely removed using the link Asyn provided as does ZoneAlarm, to be sure all a/v components are removed. Follow Asyn’s advice.

Reboot.

Why it isn’t a good idea to run multiple full antivirus products at the same time

Windows 10 firewall is excellent, third-party firewall is not required (ZoneAlarm).

Follow bob3160’s tips and advice then reboot when done.
