romovables?

Relatively new Avast user here. Running version 5.0.594 in XP. When I open the user interface and go to “Scan Computer” I now see an entry at the bottom of the page labeled “romovables” Aside from what appears to be am odd misspelling, on the surface it also looks like it duplicates the functions of the Removable Media Scan.

So, what does this do? Or is it even something that’s supposed to be there? I can’t find any information online and it’s setting off alarm bells for me, so I’m certainly not going to run it or even touch it until I know more.

Are you talking about the removable media scan?

It scans removable media as it says with an icon next to it. There are several types of scans you can do in this version: Quick, Full, Removable Media, Select a Folder, Custom, and Boot-Time for 32-bit. If you are new to this version, stick with the default and hold off on the Custom scanning.

No, the Removable Media Scan is there too. I understand what that is. What I’m saying is that when I click on Scan Computer I get 5 choices under Scan Now. From top to bottom: Quick scan, Full system scan, Removable media scan, Select folder to scan, and romovables.

If I click “more details” under Removable media scan I see: Scan mode: Normal; Scan areas: All removable media; Schedule: No; Scan PUP: Off, with switch to Turn on.

If I click “more details” under “romovables” I see pretty much exactly the same thing, but with a little bar graph between “Scan mode:” and “Normal.” So you can see why I’m wondering exactly what is going on here.

Surprised you haven’t had more of a response on this.

I’m no expert (I really only come here for help, not to help), but it seems to me as if you may have a fake version. Did you upgrade to 5.0.594 from an earlier version, or is that your first avast install?

(This response should at least put you back to the top of the list, and may attract interest from someone knowledgeable).

The problem is that we don’t know what this is, I have never seen this so I’m wondering where exactly it is and a picture is worth a thousand words.

So if mingusal can post an image showing the exact location, perhaps we can tell why it is there.

You’re right. When I thought about, I could reproduce what is described by setting up a custom scan.

Unless the Op posts back we’ll never know.

I’m not sure what that scan is for i would email support@avast.com and ask them.

No, you would post it here in the forum in this thread.

This thread got me asking now what is it for any ways?

We are waiting for the OP to post a picture so that we can help him resolve his problem.
