Been running Avast on a regular basis showing all OK. Decided to run in Safe Mode and it found a bunch of Root Kits. Maybe a good idea for others to try.

Thanks for the suggestion a safe scan should be performed only when there is a possible problem. Good idea to do that then from time to time upon a problem like for files normally “in use” under some particular process run.
The safe mode only has the adsolute minimum programs running, with all the other components disabled. This allows a file to be deleted/cleaned that would otherwise be identified as “in use”. Some programs like SAS and MBAM can identify a problem, and then direct you to enter the safe mode to allow it to clean/delete the pest,
