Rootkit scan

Is there a way to perform a comprehensive rootkit scan? I understand there is a boot scan and the Quick Scan and Full System scans perform a ‘quick’ rootkit scans. I was wondering if there is a more thorough scan while I am using the computer.

  1. You can set up a custom scan, where you can set the rootkit scan to max.
  2. avast! runs an automatic rootkit scan at every startup of the system. (8 minutes after boot)
  3. There’s also a special tool to do this available, but you shouldn’t run this without guidance.

Is there any specific reason you are considering this ?

Given that avast does a rootkit scan 8 minutes after boot and a lower sensitivity rootkit scan as part of the predefined on-demand scans, then this shouldn’t be necessary unless you suspect you have a rootkit.
If so what makes you think that you have a rootkit ?
