Is there a way to perform a comprehensive rootkit scan? I understand there is a boot scan and the Quick Scan and Full System scans perform a ‘quick’ rootkit scans. I was wondering if there is a more thorough scan while I am using the computer.
- You can set up a custom scan, where you can set the rootkit scan to max.
- avast! runs an automatic rootkit scan at every startup of the system. (8 minutes after boot)
- There’s also a special tool to do this available, but you shouldn’t run this without guidance.
Is there any specific reason you are considering this ?
Given that avast does a rootkit scan 8 minutes after boot and a lower sensitivity rootkit scan as part of the predefined on-demand scans, then this shouldn’t be necessary unless you suspect you have a rootkit.
If so what makes you think that you have a rootkit ?
