Rundll crashes

Hi,
just wanted to report the following:
after uninstalling Avast 7 (free) and using aswclear, then installing Avast 8 (free, latest update), I get a rundll.exe crash from windows (7 & vista). After rebooting and first logging in, same crash happens once. (so far)
Also when using thunderbird and connecting to accounts over ssl or starttls, the same rundll crash happens until the certificates (avast certificate) are set up within thunderbird.
I upgraded on several desktops/laptops in the family, with windows 7 and vista OSes, it happened on each one the same way.

  • Which version of avast! Free…??
  • OS…?? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
  • Other security related software installed…??
  • Which AV did you use before avast!..??
  • avast 8.0.1482 & .1483
  • windows 7 professional x64 sp1 fully updated, windows vista x64 sp2 fully updated
  • none
  • avast 7.latest

Do you use OpenSSL…??

it’s installed on one computer, but not on the rest.

See, if this helps on one of “the rest”.

  1. Download avast! Free Antivirus: http://files.avast.com/iavs5x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed avast! versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall avast! with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

as i wrote in the first post, i started that way straight. ::slight_smile:

(ps.: i don’t need help actually, i just reported the problem.)

  1. Did you follow the instructions strictly…??
  2. OK.

yes i did.

another issue: i downloaded 1482 yesterday and installed on the computers, after which i noticed there is a new version 1483. i updated the computers, no problems. but there was one left (vista x64 sp2 etc.), on which i donwloaded the new version and installed it. the result: it stops booting at the green progress bar and needs to be hard reset.
after removing avast in safe mode (and using the uninstall utility afterwards) it is able to boot again, and installing 7.0.1474 is working fine as before. updating from within 1474 to 1483 → same lockup at the boot progress bar.
