I thought i would run a sfc scan just to check on protected files.
I was continually asked to put in my cd as it wanted to fix up some protected files.
I canceled the scan as i was getting heaps of files to be fixed. I did not fix any. They were left as they were
I am using windows xp home edition SP3.
Could it be that i have SP3 and it has changed a lot of windows protected files, as before i had xp with SP2
I hope you understand what i am trying to say.
Any help will be appreciated.
Crofty, even with SP3 changed files, Windows will check if the file is corrupted, not a legit SP3 one and try to restore the ‘old’ Windows file… At least, I think this would be the normal behavior. Otherwise, you’ll mess your system having updated but restoring old files…
Hope someone more advisable in sfc command could drop some light…
Thanks tech
Your assistance very much appreciated.
I hope you are right if not i have no idea how my system is running, i don’t seem to have any problems as it is quite stable.
I have set it up to do a through scan disk (boot scan), for next time i boot the computer, which will be tomorrow.
I will try to hang around for a while as it is getting late here and have to get up early tommorrow.
Cheers
Hi feRRaRi
Very much appreciate your info and links.
I have clicked and read both links. I kind of get the info but i am not very computer literate.
I download SP3 the full version from Microsoft
I am still not sure if i have a problem or if it is just having SP3 installed.
cause if it is because of SP3, would have to estimate at Least 80% of protected files are corrupt.
Computer is working okay.
Thought i would post a copy of check disk i run earlier

Crofty, that links said that you must tweak your installation (changing Registry keys) to use sfc safely after installing SP3. If I were you, I won’t run it again unless your computer get weird and you really need to do so. I think you won’t solve your problems (if any) running sfc now.
Hi Tech
Once again your help is very much appreciated
You are correct, i think i will just leave it alone as everything seems to be working fine.
The few times i have gone into the registry i triple check what i am changing as i am very nervous.
(Maybe i should pack my computer away in it’s box and send it back to the store with “I am to stupid to own a computer written in bold letters across the top of the box” ;D)
