When I try scanning my c drive with Avast4 I get the error message “Runtime Error! Program:C:\PROGRAM FILES\ALWIL SOFTWARE\AVAST4\ASHQUICK.EXE this application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application’s support team for more information.”
On pressing “OK” it kicks me out of the scan.
What are you doing at that time, I mean, are you trying to start a scan right clicking the C: icon on Windows Explorer?
Are you using version 4.1 or 4.5 Beta?
Which is your operational system?
Using Avast 4.1 Windows ME office 2000. This error message comes up half way through scanning after right mouse clicking and selecting “scan c”
Does the same happen if you run a normal full system scan?
ashQuick was not ment to scan an entire drive. Just for one or a few files.
Well, maybe it wasn’t meant that way, but it should work anyway.
Dazza, could you please try to identify the problematic file? I mean, it’s probably caused by one (of just a few) file(s)… if you don’t scan the whole C: drive but only some folder, you should be able to find its location (you can guess according to the area that was scanned right before the program crashed).
It’s possible that (for example) the filename is too long (I have fixed this problem recently for avast! 4.5).
Igor, the file name with spaces does not work integrated with Download Managers yet.

The above is where the last file gets to when scanning.
note: some files in that folder may tell that they can not be removed. This is normal.
Can you please try to install the betaversion of avast! 4.5 to see if the problem is solved there? Thanks!
I’ve downloaded the Beta version, how do I install it. It isn’t obvious as there are 80 files in the downloaded zip file. Which one do I select?
You can’t just download the beta version, you must download servers.def as is explained HERE
Ok, so I downloaded the file and overwrote this in the setups folder. What next? How do I get this beta version running automatically?? Step by step instructions for the thicko please!!

I wouldn’t know where the “program update button” was. Anyway I’ve downloaded 4.5 and I can now scan, so problem solved! Thanks anyway. :o
Well, it’s not that difficult. ;D
Right click the ‘a’ blue icon on the system tray and choose Update of the Program (includes virus database) or only VPS (virus database).
