Safe Mode hangs at aswRvrt.sys

Hello,

I’ve seen that help can be found here regarding problems with aswRvrt.sys
When I tried to boot my PC this morning I’ve gotten a Bluescreen during the Windows loading Logo. (0x50)
I run Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit with Avast!(the most recent version I think)

I’ve managed to boot into safe mode once and ordered a chkdsk /f /p on the next startup. It was successful and the PC booted into a bluescreen again.
Whenever I tried to boot into safe mode again, the system stopped loading at aswRvrt.sys and resulted in another BSOD 5 minutes later.

A memory check showed no memory errors.

Help is greatly appreciated.

EDIT: I’ve created a FRST.txt log to help along whoever is willing to help me.

Hi download fixlist.txt that is attached to the same USB as FRST
Run Frst as before and press fix

On completion try a reboot to normal windows

You are a god amongst men! Thank you so much! Have my firstborn!

How do I go about preventing this from happening again?
Can I keep using Avast!?
What was the problem anyway?
Any further steps I should take?

Thanks again!

Cheers~

You will need to reinstall Avast as I kind of damaged it in the process. Evidently there was a windows 7 Avast emergency update yesterday to stop this. It appears that users with Comodo had it blocked, hence no boot

Lets reinstall Avast

Download Uninstall Utility to your Desktop.
Download the correct version of Avast
Avast Free
Avast Pro
Avast Internet Security
Avast Premier
Disconnect from the net
Uninstall Avast via control panel

[]Run aswClear
[
]It will offer to reboot to safe mode … Accept that

[*]Once it has rebooted to safe mode
[*]In the Select Product to Uninstall dropdown choose the version of Avast that is on your system.
[*]Press Uninstall
[*]Once complete reboot your system to Normal Mode
[*]Reinstall Avast

Yes! Everything works fine now. Thanks again for the help!

PK has just posted on another thread that the data base was updated to include windows 8.1 but it proved detrimental to some x64 systems and was pulled probably via the EUM

Amazing sissle if you ask me, fixed about 5 pcs with the issue, most of the time recovery mode and system restore,
but the last one, no safe mode, so had to use the fixlist of our friend, very much appreciated !

Hi, I have exactly the same issue with aswRvrt.sys hanging on safemode boot. I also have Avast and Comodo which seems to be what everyone has that has this issue. How do I download this “fixlist.txt” file? Where is it? And what is and how does one run Frst? Any help in rescueing my PC would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

@HiddenPalm … for help, start your own topic. Helping multiple users in same topic will be chaos

Ok thanks.
