safe mode hangs up at aswRvrt.sys

I’m having a problem with my computer this morning. It was running fine, then all of a sudden it froze up. When I tried to restart it I keep on getting boot disk error. I also tried to start it in safe mode but it keeps on hanging up at aswRvrt.sys. My computer is Windows XP Professional. Can someone please let me know what I can do to get this fixed. I noticed another thread like this but they were talking about a FRST.txt log and I don’t know what that is.

Thanks,

Start here If you cannot Boot the computer in this thread

And attach the log here, what did you do prior to this problem appearing ?

Okay I found the topic showing how to run OTLPENet.exe and put on disk. I did this and rebooted my computer with this CD.

I also downloaded the Farbar Recovery Scan Tool to a flash drive.

When I try to run the frst.exe it says

FRST.exe is not a valid Win32 application.

What do I do now?

When I started up my computer this morning it was fine. After a while it seemed to freeze and when I rebooted it, this happened.

OK first priority then will be to back up your data to a USB drive using the Reatogo desktop explorer, as this sounds like a HDD problem

Then from the Reatogo desktop

[*]Double-click on the OTLPE icon.
[*]Select the Windows folder of the infected drive if it asks for a location
[*]When asked “Do you wish to load the remote registry”, select Yes
[*]When asked “Do you wish to load remote user profile(s) for scanning”, select Yes
[*]Ensure the box “Automatically Load All Remaining Users” is checked and press OK
[*]OTL should now start.
[*]Drag and drop this attached scan.txt into the Custom scans and fixes box
[*]Press Run Scan to start the scan.
[*]When finished, the file will be saved in drive C:\OTL.txt
[*]Copy this file to your USB drive if you do not have internet connection on this system.
[*]Right click the file and select send to : select the USB drive.
[*]Confirm that it has copied to the USB drive by selecting it
[*]You can backup any files that you wish from this OS
[*]Please post the contents of the C:\OTL.txt file in your reply.

Thanks. It took me a while to do my backup; but it is done.
I ran the otlpe scan. The otl.txt file is attached.

I was also able to run the frst scan. The frst.txt is attached as well.

Thanks for your help.

No sign of malware … The last service that was installed was Comodo Dragon, has this caused problems before

I can restore the computer to the time prior to the installation if you wish

I haven’t had any problems previously. If we could try that it would be great.

This will take you back to 5th

Download the attached fixlist.txt
Save to the same location as FRST
Run FRST as before and press Fix

Once done reboot to normal windows

It’s working now. Comodo was still there, so I uninstalled it. Thanks for all your help.

Not a problem, the driver was probably reset back to the old version 8)
