Safe sites to play online or download games?

I am not really sure where I should put this question so I apologize if I am posting in the wrong place. I would very much like to avoid inviting viruses onto my computer, but almost every game site ensures me they are virus free and there is No risk to download their games. My daughter and I like to play hidden object puzzle games like the “Adventures of Robinson Crusoe”…we were really enjoying that game.

I had been using iWin games …the free games that you have to watch ads during game play in order to play…but we were still having a great time together. Then I read that this type of game is unsafe and leads to viruses and Trojans etc. Other sites I have used Playfirst, BigFish and Spintop games are any of these safe to use??? Is it safe to try the free trial version downloads or the play for free and watch ads games? ???

You may want to check out http://www.newgrounds.com/ which is one of the biggest (if not the biggest) online flash game sites around. There are some things inappropriate for younger audiences but everything is labeled with a rating (E, T, M, A) and most of the puzzle games are pretty family-friendly. The site is low on ads and pretty much 100% safe to use.

The page is in Norwegian, ( norwegian newspaper) but i think the games opens in english

 Hi all :

I play games ONLY at www.pogo.com because of security concerns with
other Game Sites . As to the Flash-oriented game site mentioned by another,
there has been recent News of an unpatchable security flaw in Adobe Flash,
which has been discussed in our “General” Forum and unless you take the
Advice of “polonus” in One of those threads, I recommend you NOT use those
“types” of games .
I have looked into BigFish and have security concerns about playing or
downloading games from there ; have never heard of Playfirst or Spintop and
I would do a Google “Search” on them and checking reliable security-oriented
Sites for Info on them before considering to use them .
When a Site caters to children, I am suspicious that they MAY be trying to
lure in the naive and gullible, to “infect” the computers they are using !?
Their parents may be almost equally naive & gullible !?

Yup that is me I am somewhat naive when it comes to this …that being said…what do you consider a reliable security oriented site?

Don’t bother with links I prefer to google thing myself.

Pogo’s games are generally targeted at an older audience as the website is -somewhat- of a gambling website. If anything, Newgrounds is more secure from my experience.

@Spider8

Install protection:
Malwarebytes’ Anti-Malware and its resident protection is a one time cost
WinPatrol PLUS and its resident protection is a one time cost

The free versions are good.

Install a good HOSTS file like hpHosts and MVPS HOSTS files managed by HostsMan

Gona watch the Grey Cup soon:

I have Malwarebytes Anti-malware free edition as well as Super Antispyware free edition.

What does WinPatrol Plus and MVPS HOSTS do?

I thought you said you prefer to Google your self

WinPatrol free vs PLUS:

I do prefer to Google myself and I will I am just curious what the programs you are recommending do. I think the HOSTS program makes it not possible for me to go to a site that isn’t safe as for WinPatrol why the Plus version and not the free one?

One further question doesn’t Avast do some of this stuff too? I thought Avast was supposed to block malicious stuff from getting on my computer :-\

Grasshopper there is much to learn:

As much as the Plus version may be better I can’t buy programs right now so am trying to get the best protection I can for FREE. Lame but that’s life.

I have downloaded the free version. Thanks for the rec.

I am glad to welcome you here and that’s not lame.

Hi…

In my signature area is a link to a game site the Christian Broadcasting Network has just recently put up. It revolves around the newly updated Superbook series that CBN originally produced in the early 80’s. They have some pretty fun games (including puzzle,) that are beautifully rendered. Also included are sections that help explain the Bible. Definately no ads or spyware that I have seen!

May God bless you
