In various threads on this forum, I have read where people say they don’t need a lot of security because they practice “safe surfing”. Don’t believe it! A couple of days ago I went to www.rall.com, the site of a left wing cartoonist mentioned on Yahoo!‘s home page on a couple of occasions. Besides 2 tracking cookies and one misdirecting ad, I was hit with a browser highjack attempt that activated SpywareGuard. You never know what is on any of these sites. >:( You must protect yourself even if you never go to a “porn” site. I enjoy reading blogs, and though the blogs themselves are benign, the blog masters may not be. On today’s internet as long as there is money to be made or a cause to promote/protest, there will be no “safe surfing”. :’(
don’t worry gene…i can see that you are relatively well-protected from your signature
anyway…just use a safe browser like opera or mozilla which rejzor recommended
shgoh,
Let us all remember that one of the only reasons that hackers and mishief makers target IE is that the program is so widely used!
Be careful…Some day they will go after the next in line which might be Mozilla or Firefox or even Opera!
A system is only as safe as the user can make it that day!
I have a copy of Opera Web Browser for Dummies on the desk now. I have been reading the browser change suggestion threads also. MY only hesitation now is the cost. I wish there was a more secure browser, not a just less likely to be hit one.
I cringe every time I talk to a friend that says they have Norton (or any other suite) and feel that’s all they need. When I check through their program list and see Real Player and several other auto updating programs (daily prayer, joke-a-day, you name it) I just shake my head and wait for them to call and ask for help.
To me the computer/internet is like going to a huge library that is located in a high crime area: It’s worth it but you have got to be careful and wary of all you see.

i agreed with you techie…the reason i use mozilla is just because of tab browsing ;D
