Through an update prompted by AVAST and not a clean install, SafeZone installed automatically again?!

Thanks for all the feedback, everybody.

Just to give you some info on what we are doing regarding this:

  • We actually stopped pushing SafeZone to Free AV users shortly after this thread was started, to take the time to better understand all the feedback and possibly adjust the strategy
  • While we’re disappointed that the reaction to the inclusion of this premium feature in the Free AV has generally been rather negative (at least based on the feedback here and other sites), we have made the decision to stop pushing it for the time being
  • SafeZone is still part of new Free AV installs though (and of course, as always, can be configured in the Custom installation) – so in that regard, the free and premium versions of Avast now behave the same
  • We are working on a better way to re-introduce the feature to our free user base (and some of the suggestions in this thread have been really useful for that, thanks). We will keep you posted.

Could be they started again or there is a flaw in the latest version during update. Let's see what avast has to say about it.

More interesting would be which version was installed before.

It would have been either 11.1.2261 or .2262. If there’s a way for me to check the version I had before I upped to 12.1.2272 let me know.

I’m really troubled with AVAST or anyone for that matter loading programs onto my computer with no “opt-out”, or a bare minimum, “Heads-up! You can uninstall it afterwords”. A security company/program doing ninja installs is insane. The fact that I can’t delete the SZBrowser folder even after uninstalling the browser because I need ‘permission from Administrators’ is ridiculous. (Yes, I’m the only user/admin on this comp)

I’m trying to keep using AVAST because I’ve had it for years but this behavior is deplorable.

You can remove the folder if you disable the avast self defense first.

If it was 2261, it would explain it, the bug wasn’t fixed back then.

2260 + SafeZone browser is now included also in free version
2261 + Fixed issue when SafeZone browser was installed during program update also in case when user has uninstalled it before
2262 + fixed repeatedly adding SafeZone browser icon on desktop after avast update

Didn’t 2261 fix the automatic install? I can’t make sense of ‘also in case when user has uninstalled it before’

Nope, it was (finally) fixed in build 2262.
