SAMBA connection

Hey.

I recently got over 300 connections requests blocked by Avast saying it’s samba connection. The IPs are from different countries and they’re trying to connect almost every minute.

What is samba connection? Is someone trying to hack me? What have I done wrong? Is there something that I can do to stop it?

Thanks

The IPs from different countries are a bit concerning. Maybe a botnet tried to connect to your machine. Perhaps do a full system scan.

I still don’t understand what it is. Can you explain?

btw it’s still going on. Every minute a new connection attempt

If you have Windows Firewall enabled, check its profile. If it’s “Private” then change it into “Public”.
Same for Avast Firewall; but settings can be changed from Protection => Network Inspector, change “Firewall Profile” to “UNTRUSTED”.

Samba connection from different country IPs seems like your machine is directly connected/exposed to the Internet; that is not a good thing.

Ok. Thank you. According to the firewall it’s system process trying to connect.

Samba protocol is managed by system (Windows) so it’s natural that system process is shown.
What the direction of these connections (i.e. incoming or outgoing)?

OK so it’s all incoming.
Open “Network” tab and make sure your current network as “Untrusted”; that will protect your machine well.
If you don’t want to see these block logs, I’d suggest to buy a router and connect your machine to the Internet via it.
