With the new v.5 Security Suite, several of the computers I have installed it on will crash when using the sandbox. This seems to happen when a browser window is closed, particularly after a secure session or after viewing a flash video and happens more often with XP machines. Occasionally, the system has crashed even when not using the sandbox, but rarely.
Have others had this problem, and is there a fix? If the sandbox is not allowing access, that’s fine, but it shouldn’t crash he OS!
@bdienes: was it an application crash or blue screen? Which avast build number are you using right now? We’ve fixed some bugs in build 507 which caused BSODs when you closed some applications which used e.g. video codecs.
@Logos: This BSOD was caused by Process Monitor while it was trying to free the buffer which was already freed. I’m still investigating that PML log you sent me, could you please generate another PML log when you launch your IE normally (outside sandbox) and send me that log? I’ll try to compare both logs, thanks!
These are BSODs. I will ned to investigate further as these are installed on computers of clients that I do tech support for and I don’t have accees to them at this time. I will try to get to one tomorrow and check the build number and do some tests.
I’m still testing it, but I think I’m seeing sandboxed IE8 sessions locking up fairly regularly. So far I don’t think non-sandboxed IE8 has gone unresponsive in me, so it’s looking like Avast could be the culprit
I’m running build 507 on Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, and using IE8 32bit.
It seems to be that opening a second browser tab is causing the problem, but I wouldn’t swear to it yet.
I can’t get IE8 to connect to internet when runing virtualised (and IE8 memory and CPU use are v. high). OK when not in sandpit. It only happened since last program update (to 507) I think (I am using AIS).
