Scan external SSD during boot

Is there a way to scan an external SSD during boot? I have no issues scanning the internal SSD. Does an external boot scan pretty much guarantee it’s clean? If not, I’m going to format the drive and reinstall Windows 11.

The external SSD is from my mom’s computer and she allowed fraudulent external access. Before I wipe the drive and start over, is there a way to scan the external SSD? My computer is Windows 10. Her computer is Windows 11.

Foram tantas perguntas que me perdi. mas se fiz o escaneamento com avast vc esta protegido se não encontar nada.

Hi Tim, welcome the the Avast forum.

There can never truly be a 100 percent guarantee but it would be close. That can be done from the Windows Explorer when you have the SSD plugged in you can Right Click on the External SSD Drive and select the external drive. See attached image example from my win10 system with multiple drives - this should be the same for your external SSD when connected.

However if you are going to wipe the drive and start over, then an Avast On-Demand scan, is somewhat redundant. Avast is an on-access scanner and if anything is somehow active in the external SSD then the File System Shield. So if when you plug it in if becomes active then that activity should be scanned.

Using a different program, I was able to find a rootkit. Once I quarantined the file, Windows started going wonky then locked up. Does Avast not scan for rootkits? I can’t say how the file got their as who knows what my mom allowed to happen.

Are you using two antiviruses? If so, I can tell you that it is not good for system stability.
