Scan "going back".

Well, hello there. I have recently created this thread http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=139903.0 . Apart from the obvious problem with the false positive problem (which if anyone can help me saying where I should report it to, I’d appreciate it), I have began having a certain problem when doing scans, starting today. As you can see, from TwinHeadedEagle’s response, my system is clean. However, as explained in the starting message, when I do a full scan, after it finds the false positive, the scan “goes back” in percentage of completion, from like 10/15% to around 2%, and the scan speed drops dramatically. I would like to know if there is any way to fix this. This happens in both Avast! 2014 and the version before that, and does not happen when I do a Quick Scan.

I am sorry if this is not the proper place to post this, but it seemed the most apropriate to me, since this is not really a “malware” problem.

Thanks in advance,

Rog

You can upload files and report issues to avast here : http://www.avast.com/contact-form.php (select subject according to Your case)

You can use mail
send to virus@avast.com in a password protected zip file
mail subject: False Positive / undetected sample (select subject according to your case)
zip password: infected

or you can send files from avast chest
how to use the chest. http://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB21

As weird is may look, it’s actually more a feature than a bug.
The thing is that the shown progress is just an estimate (it’s not possible to say exactly how long the scan is gonna take). The estimate is computed according to the current scanning “mode”. However, when the first infected file is found, the scanner changes its behavior - it starts scanning even more thoroughly. So, the progress is recomputed somehow, to reflect the new scanning mode - and the current estimate changes (in your case - drops).

Alright, thanks a lot for the answers! This is why I’ve always used Avast!, not only is the software itself great, the forum help is unmatched, too! ;D
