Advice please. I have tried to run Avast twice recently. On the first occasion it reached 31% and seemed to stick and I had to end the programme. On the second occasion it reached 38% and the same happened.
The files it was reading on the second occasion was in System Volume Info and although I can’t tell you the files it was reading on the first occasion I know it wasn’t System Volume Info.
The only thing I can think to do is uninstall Avast and reinstall it again hoping that that fixes the problem. However my question is as I am on Broadband how do I go about doing this without leaving my system unprotected in between uninstalling and reinstalling again? I have no other anti virus etc; running at same time as Avast. Any help would be appreciated. :-\
I am running
WinXP Home SP3
Spybot
Superantispyware
Malwarebytes
By first downloading the new setup file before uninstalling.
Though there is no guarantee that this would resolve the problem as if the same condition exists it could happen in the new install.
Is the avast icon still rotating when the scan appears to stall ?
What does Task Manager show for processes using CPU % avast processes begin with ash or asw ?
Thanks for your quick response to my question.
I’m afraid I didn’t notice whether or not the avast icon was rotating and although I did look in Task Manager I did not note the processes using CPU% avast processes begin with ash or asw.
This is what is called a ‘learning curve’ for me. I will know better the next time to take note of these things.
I think I will go down the clean install route and hope for the best. Thanks for the info and advice. I will let you know how I get on although it might take a day or two as I don’t move fast with these things. Sorry
