Just wondering if anyone else has seen a scheduled scan start and after an over extended period
of time the progress still shows 0%? When I get tired of seeing this I go back to the “overview”
screen then go back to the scan screen and the scan had finished a long time ago. ???
Case in point; I can be running errands when the scan starts and return home a couple of hours
later and the scan progress shows 0%. The scan takes only a few minutes to complete, not hours. ???
No, I do not stare at the scan screen. It just happens every cotton picking time.
Neither a clean install nor a repair fixes this. ???
Well there has always been a delay in the progress percentage - but hours seems somewhat OTT.
In order to be able to do a scan progress - first avast has to do some sort of analysis of what is to be scanned (the scan selected) and the quantity of data to be scanned (including archives if selected). Even then I can’t see how this can be done with a high degree of accuracy.
Obviously your system resources will have an impact also. For me on my XP system I don’t have a huge amount of data to be scanned and the 0% indication isn’t there for very long.
You might be advised to disable MBAM whilst the scan is running - MBAM Premium 2.0 I have found to be a real resource hog. So much so that I have disabled the resident protection on my win7 netbook.
Was this a smart scan - I just fired one off whilst compiling this and it stayed on 0% for a while and the next thing I knew it was in the high 80% and then it was finished. All in all less than a minute.
I don’t have a huge amount of data on my system. I have also unchecked the GrimeFighter and Network Security Check in the custom install, so it is only running two scans, viruses & malware and Software Updater.
No problems here. Just scheduled one for 5:05 pm local time. Bar progress started showing almost to the minute it started to scan. see image.
By the time I copied the image and trimmed it I openned Avast through details in the toaster popup and the progress was showing 60% some 4 minutes later. see image
Reading so many people complaining that Scan Schedules are not performing at the time set, I have to say that I have never had problems with it either.
It seems that when the scans are “scheduled” it acts up. However, when I start a scan manually
there is no issue. I guess I’ll just do manual scans from now on. It was happening on all scheduled
scans, default and custom scans. Odd to say the least. ???
FYI, in my custom scans the only tweaking I did was with the rootkit settings.
Smart Scan I don’t have scheduled.
Custom Quick scan quick rootkit scan vs. very quick scan (default quick scan)
Custom Full scan full rootkit scan vs. quick scan (default full scan)
I don’t have any issues with them starting, not starting or starting at odd times.
It’s the showing or lack of showing progress.
