Scan Results Question

Hi. I am new at all of this and recently upgraded from the Home Edition to Professional. Of course it immediately found a virus. After a complete scan of my local drives it found one that I put in my “chest” because I wasn’t sure what to do with it. It was not able to be repaired. It is located in C:\windows\mailswitch.ocx. Can I safely delete it or will deleting it affect something important? Please advise.

Thanks, “Novice” Chris.

The mailswitch.ocx file isn’t in my windows folder, so it would appear to be a third party file or possibly malware.

What was the malware name given by avast ?

These links tend to support the avast detection:

There is no rush to delete anything from the chest, a protected area where it can do no harm. Anything that you send to the chest you should leave there for a few weeks. If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them.
