Scan stops on it's own

How about those dump (unpXXXXX) files?
Thanks.

@ jenray
It seemed to work

@igor
I’m not very good when it comes to this kind of stuff. I have no idea how to get or where to find dump files. Where do I find them?

In Windows XP you find the unpXXXXXmdmp files in:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\log

You have to show hidden files and folder.
Start > Control panel > Folder options > View tab > Files and folders > Hidden Files and folders > Show files and folders. Apply and OK.

Compress the file with ZIP, RAR or 7Zip and give it an original name (lordFRZASCANunpmdmp). Add a text (use notepad) with your Forum e-mail and URL of this post.

Open Windows Explorer and copy/paste this address:

ftp://ftp.avast.com/incoming

Drag/drop compressed dump file into the right open window. Wait for transmission to conclude.

Glad it worked for you…

Why ? Were you not able to send it ? There is another way, more general and less personal, to sent the info to Avast!

Open Avast! > SUPPORT > Generate support package > Generate Now! > Yes

But please, if anyone sends the dumps (which would be really welcome, as without it we cannot fix the problem) - post a notice about it here, together with the name of the uploaded file.
The same goes for the support package.
Thanks.

Thanks igor. I forgot to mention it.

I don’t have any files like that in that folder. :frowning:

If you do not have any mdmp files in Avast! log folder, generate the support package anyways. There is a lot of info in it about what Avast! is doing in you comp. May be igor can figure it out. Remember to come back here and give us the name ( number ) of the package that was sent.

here’s the support package
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\AVAST Software\Avast\Support\20130503_0336_959670051.zip
I tried to attach it but it was too big

You would have to send the support package to avast to be of any use, posting the location of the package on your system doesn’t help sorry.

Have you updated to the latest stable release 8.0.1488 http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=122948.0 if your still getting problems after running the new release then try a clean install.

I did send it to avast and I have done 2 clean installs in the past week but my problem stopped when I took jenray’s advice and unticked the option to scan files in order. Igor was still wanting dump files but I didn’t have any so iroc9555 said to generate the support pack, send it to avast and post back with what number the package was. I assume that number is what was needed. If it is not than I need to know where to find the right number.

Sorry, I didn’t realize that was the process you were instructed to do.

Have you tried the latest release mentioned in my previous post, that may help.

Yeah I got the most recent update and it is working fine. I have not tried ticking the scan in order option though.

I’m afraid I don’t see a support package of that name on the FTP.

My Full scan is now working with my two external Hard drives plugged in but still untick ‘Scan all files in the order they appear.’…that seems to solve the problem in both Quick and Full Scan. Hope you have yours working now…

I just tried it again here is the number this time:
